Outline of Completed and Current Research Works
1. Development of Advanced Control Techniques of Grid Connected Power Electronic Systems For Renewable Energy Sources
The specific objectives of the research are as follows:
- To develop and test a small-scale grid-connected prototype systems of PES to be integrate with electric grid, while giving emphasis on following parameters like controllability, overall conversion efficiency, Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT), cost and size of converters, system reliability, protections, modularity, serviceability etc.
- To develop a software/simulation tool using advanced optimization techniques, computational intelligent tools and advanced digital signal processing techniques, for controlled operation of PES based interfaces and to test/compare/validate the parameters listed above.
2. Design & Development of Electric Machine Drives for Performance Optimization
The specific objectives of the research are as follows:
- To develop an analytical mathematical model, suitable for the harmonic analysis of induction machine/PMSM and validation of the same with the experimental results.
- To come up with suitable design suggestion/modification for an induction/PMSM machine design with novel design considerations based on advanced optimization/computational intelligence techniques to minimize the line current ripples and harmonic torque ripples.
- To develop a FEM for an Induction/PMSM Machine with novel design considerations based on advanced optimization techniques to minimize line current ripples and harmonic pulsation. Comparisons of the results, i.e. design suggestions, obtained for analytical model.
- Condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of PM machines.
3. Development of an Advanced Electric Generator Design Tool for the Power Engineering Industry
The aim of the project is to develop an Electric Generator Toolbox which will complement and enhance an established, industry-leading Finite Element Analysis (FEA) program for Electromagnetic Analysis.
4. Design And Development of DC Distribution System for Residential Buildings
Objective of the research work are as follows:
- Elimination of the connection of remote area to grids
- Deployment of an autonomous DC micro grid to rural/ remote areas
- RES connection to DC micro grid
- Conversion of AC appliances in residential building to DC appliances
- Designing an autonomous building.
5. A Multi-Dimensional Smart Energy Grid Analysis for Indian Scenario
- To develop a shared and cross-disciplinary understanding of smart grid systems and distributed generation/storage facilities for urban and rural areas in India, with an emphasis on scaling-up potential;
- To understand interactions of technologies, resources, communication systems and stakeholders towards development of secure and cost-effective smart grid design, operation and management;
- To compare the model results with simulation using a laboratory-based facility for training, capacity building and experimentation;
- To consider business models and institutional arrangements for practical implementation.
